Feeling Lost in Sitecore XM Cloud? You’re not alone — Here’s where to find the key features
If you ever feel as confused as I do sometimes, you’re definitely not the only one. SaaS platforms like Sitecore XM Cloud continue to evolve, and while change is beneficial because it helps us grow, it also means adding new features, changing UI and more.
To help you avoid that frustration, here’s a quick guide on how to find a few important things in XM Cloud that I keep forgetting, especially when not using it every day.
Desktop
This hidden gem is super useful for all kinds of tasks. Personally, I use it mainly to run PowerShell scripts inside the PowerShell ISE, making it easy to test scripts before deploying them.
How to find the Desktop in Sitecore XM Cloud:
- Log in to your Sitecore XM Cloud account
- Select your XM Cloud instance
- Click Open app — this opens your instance in a new browser tab
- Click Settings in the new tab
- Under UTILITIES on the left pane, click Desktop.
- And there you go — you’re ready to run PowerShell scripts in the Desktop environment.
Content Editor and Explorer
Sitecore keeps changing and improving its interface. Sometimes it feels like two steps forward, one step back — at least from a user’s perspective!
If you’re looking for the Content Editor or Explorer, here’s how to find them:
- Log in to your Sitecore XM Cloud account
- Select your XM Cloud instance
- Click Open app to open your instance in a new tab
- Click Content in the new tab
- When the menu expands, you’ll see options for Explorer and Content Editor to navigate to
A Quick Tip on Pages and the Dashboard
You might have noticed that Pages is no longer the default view when you open a site. Instead, you land on a dashboard with site information. If you want to open Pages directly, just click Edit in Page builder at the top right. Maybe Sitecore could improve this by showing Pages based on your role — that would save us a few clicks every day!
Happy codin'!
